1 week to go

So for a range of personal / family reasons Angela and I decided some time ago that we would use the long service leave I have accumulated after 18 years at Britex and take the family, on what we have no doubt, will be the trip of a life time. Ironically while away, July 1st will also mark my 10 year anniversary as Managing Director after Colin made the decision to move out of this position and quite quickly away from all day to day / operational involvment of Britex.

We all work hard in our jobs and family lives,  and I'm always conscious of the larger team effort that supports me at Britex, but most importantly the support patience and understanding (and love) I get from Angela,  Claire and Olivia, with the hours I work, and more so the travel I do.

They say a work life balance is important,  and I'm the first to admit mine is way out of whack, but I also understand and believe that those that write these idealistic philosophies sometimes struggle with the requirements of the realities in the real world - but let's not go down that path.

Put simply life is short and the years I get to enjoy my daughters is already ticking away. I've also been so conscious of working hard on the relationship Angela and I have and maintain. So if it means that by having this job I can't make the decision I have, is it the job I want?

So enough of the heavy stuff. I'm not a Facebooker, and have no interest in sending emails for those not interested but thought this might just be the way to maintain some form of diary while away,  and for those interested,  a way of seeing where we are and what we're doing.

We'll be gone for 11 and a half weeks.  A  exciting adventure that I'm finally now very excited about, as much because I really have no idea exactly where we're going - Angela has been amazing in her research and organization of the entire trip, while also having to pack up the house and find a new temporary home for us on our return (yes if one thing at a time was enough I've never heard it, because we begin renovations while away which continue for the rest of the year on return).

So contact may be personally limited over the coming months,  but I look forward to sharing the adventure here and in person when back late July.

The Happy Traveler.
